National Nutrition Month!
March is National Nutrition Month and while it’s typically aimed towards humans, it’s important to also keep in mind what types of nutrition are being offered to your pets. There are hundreds of different approaches, studies, and more related to pets and their food, so here are a couple of things to keep in mind when deciding what food to put them on.
Because there are so many varieties of health needs, food sensitivities, and more, it’s important to remember that individual pets need individual diets; meaning, what works for one pet may not work for another, and adjusting food types and proteins may be necessary to achieve your pet’s dietary needs. However, we also want to acknowledge that budgetary restrictions may be a factor, so feeding the best of what you can afford is great! Dogs can survive on basic diets, but are they achieving what their parents are wanting? Maybe! But maybe they could be getting a little extra boost with other proteins, supplements, and food types. Things such as rotational feedings with switching protein types aren’t necessarily needed, but can potentially help adapt a dog’s gut health to be less sensitive. Generally it comes down to protein quality versus quantity; remember: individual diets based on individual dogs’ needs!
Raw vs fresh vs kibble provides a large list of pros and cons, and each is great in its own way in terms of budget, quality, and accessibility. Arguably the most important factor isn’t which food type you go for, but the quality behind which option you go with. For example, raw diets can be considered safe or unsafe depending on if the company includes a “kill step” such as High Pressure Processing (HPP), which eliminates harmful bacteria and pathogens while retaining essential nutrients. You can also achieve similar goals with quality kibble-based diets that target what dietary needs your pet has.
In our retail, we have a variety of kibble foods, supplements, and raw proteins that aim to provide high quality food over a range of budget options. If you have questions, please ask us! But also remember that whichever nutrition types you want to introduce to your pet’s diet, researching and asking your vet is always crucial.

Meet the Staff: Treven
Treven has been a part of The Dog Den family since 2024! While this has been his first job working with animals, he’s no stranger to caring for friends’ and family members’ pets. He’s grown up around animals his whole life and has family members who have worked in the vet field. Treven has a deep love of animals, and you can always catch him snuggling the dogs in daycare and boarding. The dogs get so excited to see him and he’s definitely a favorite of theirs!
Treven has two Bernese Mountain Dogs of his own, and a tortoise. When he’s not here loving on your pups, you can find him playing video games, playing the guitar, or reading. We’re lucky to have Treven as a part of our pack; he’s been an amazing addition!
Featured Furry Friend: Kraken
Doggy daycare really isn’t all that different from child daycare, and we love seeing how the pups make friends when coming to play. Some owners are shocked that their dog gravitates towards the same pups when they’re here, but we see it all the time! Our bestie, Kraken, is a wonderful example of a pup who makes friends every time he comes in for daycare and boarding. He’s such a happy-go-lucky guy and he can encourage any dog, no matter how shy, to want to play!
Even though Kraken is down to play with whoever, he definitely has his circle of best friends! Some of his favorite friends are Riley, Billy, Kaja, and Nyx. Not only is he pumped to play, but he’s always so excited to see the kennel techs too. We’ve gotten to love on him since he was a puppy and we’ve loved seeing him grow into the good boy he is. He’s the definition of a sweetheart and we’re so glad to see him throughout the week!

UFBH does their annual Wasatch Waddle where owners and their hounds can walk in the parade! Registration was $20 for one owner and one hound and included a donut, beverage, bandana, and a derby hat for your hound. All registration proceeds go to helping fund the UFBH rescue.
