Pet Do’s and Don’ts During Easter Time
During any holiday, there tends to be an influx of vet visits for our furry kids getting into things they shouldn’t. They can be sneaky, especially during activities when their owners are distracted. So here are some pet-related things to keep in mind if you celebrate Easter.
Flowers are a popular thing to have around the house all year long, but especially around Easter and springtime. It’s important to know what kind of plants you’re bringing into your home, as some are toxic to dogs and cats. Easter lilies, in particular, are highly toxic to both dogs and cats, and can lead to kidney failure.
When enjoying a classic Easter egg hunt, it’s usually a good idea to let your pet sit out while the humans are searching. Often the plastic eggs are filled with candy and small toys, which can lead to dogs chewing on or ingesting them when left unsupervised. It’s also recommended to keep a list of the locations where the eggs are hidden, so you can make sure your yard is cleared of plastic eggs, discarded candy wrappers, and little toys before letting your pet free-roam. If you’re looking at making your dog a personalized egg hunt, make sure it’s fully supervised while your pet sniffs out plastic eggs with dog treats or toys in them. If you’d prefer, you can forgo the eggs altogether and just hide treats and toys around the house or yard for your pet.
Around Easter, we tend to enjoy a lot of various candies, chocolates, and foods in general. There are the obvious things to keep away from your pet: chocolate bunnies, cookies, and all candies. However, other foods that are prepared with toxic ingredients like onions, garlic, and xylitol, or foods that are high in salt or sugar (which are unhealthy for dogs), are often consumed around Easter. Some of these foods include deviled eggs, ham, carrot cakes, mashed and twice-baked potatoes, green beans if prepared with butter or spices (plain green beans are totally fine to share), and alcohol. This also means to be aware of any plates being left within reach, and making sure the garbage is inaccessible to your pet during festivities.
Lastly, Easter baskets are another thing to keep supervised around your pet. Often, baskets are filled with plastic “Easter grass” and if ingested, it can lead to obstruction and emergency vet visits. A dog-friendly alternative is replacing the plastic grass with grass made from recycled paper.

Meet the Staff: Ophelia
Ophelia has been a part of the Dog Den family since March 2023! You can usually find her petting the dogs, greeting clients at reception, and she will soon be learning how to become a bather for the groomers. From there, she’ll start training to groom full-time. Her strengths include her consistency, reliability, timeliness, and thoroughness when cleaning. Those things plus her love of the dogs have made her an amazing part of the Dog Den family, and we’re lucky to have her!
Ophelia loves all animals, and loves to learn about their behaviors. She has two kitties of her own named Yadda and Skyler, and has lived with both dogs and cats. When she’s not here loving on your pets, you can find her enjoying the outdoors, going to festivals and concerts, and doing all different types of art!
Featured Furry Friends: Jo Jo & Finley
We are grateful for the clientele we’ve been able to grow over the last four years of being open, especially our early clients that have been with us since the beginning! Miss Jo Jo and Miss Finley are two of our small dogs that have been with us since the first month of being open. Starting off as grooming dogs, they quickly became daycare regulars as well. They come in so excited to say hi to everyone and they put a smile on everyone’s faces.
These two kiddos are affectionately called our “perfect girls,” even if their parents don’t believe us. While they will get zoomies every now and then, they are the definition of lap dogs who love to get snuggles from our staff. And at the end of the day when it’s time to go home, Jo Jo and Finley make sure to show off their tricks for a little treat from our treat bowl in the lobby. We love getting to see their cute faces and are so glad they are a part of the Dog Den pack!
Did You Know?
You can get a professional mini photoshoot for your dog
One of our owners, Gina, is also a pet photographer and will be hosting monthly mini photoshoots here at The Dog Den! For $50, you can get your pup’s pictures professionally done and edited. Any additional doggy siblings will be $25 each. She did these photoshoots on April 26th and April 27th at our new location. That month’s theme was “May Flowers”: large flower props so your pup could be a flower or garden gnome. Spots were limited, with sign-ups at reception.
We’re moving locations soon
As we have grown over the last few years, we’ve been looking for a bigger and better space to continue caring for your pets to the best of our abilities. We’re happy to say we found just that, moving just a couple blocks north from where we were, in May 2025. What does this mean? More space for retail, a bigger grooming department to get your pups in even quicker for their spa days, and the long-awaited outside yards for our daycare and boarding kiddos!
You can take your pup to an egg hunt
Wheeler Farm in Murray, UT hosted a dog-friendly Easter egg hunt where dogs could search for eggs, meet the Easter Bunny, and get a goody bag. It took place on April 17th with registration required prior to the event. Public spaces not yours or your pet’s thing? Make a DIY Easter egg hunt by putting treats and goodies in plastic eggs and spreading them around the house or outside. They should always be supervised to avoid chewing up the eggs.
We encourage daycare reservations
We get lots of daycare friends coming in throughout the week, and we want to make sure to accommodate everyone to the best of our abilities! While we do take walk-in daycare appointments for dogs currently registered with us, we do sometimes fill up for the day. To avoid risking throwing off your schedule, we encourage scheduling daycare reservations ahead of time, even if that’s giving us a call before heading down for drop-off. Especially during holidays and summertime when we get a consistent increase in boarding dogs, we may have to limit how many daycare dogs we can take on a particular day. Daycare reservations will help ensure we have space for your pup!
